Adoption Update: Taking a New Path

Hi Everyone! It has been awhile since I last posted and we have had a change in our adoption journey. A few weeks ago Reggie and I fervently prayed about the direction our adoption journey was going and felt led to change our path for many reasons. It was an easy and hard decision at the same time, but we have total peace about our final decision.

For the last 18 months we were pursuing a private adoption through a lawyer and now we will be going through Bethany Christian Services, which is an adoption agency. So far, we have had a wonderful experience with them and they have made us feel so comfortable and supported.

I just have to share my God story! So, about 3 weeks ago I was getting my teeth cleaned and had a conversation with the technician. Her best friend had just adopted and I asked how the process went. She went on to tell me that she too had been matched once before and it turned out that the birthmother was continuing to consume some really harmful drugs. For some reason I felt the need to pray the rest of that day about where we were in the process and if the situation with our lawyer was a good fit or not. When Reggie got home we talked about it and prayed about it even more together. He mentioned that maybe I should call Bethany Christian Services in the morning and find out more about their program. He said he would pray over me in the morning before he left for work so I would have wisdom in my converstaion with them and ask all the important questions. I got up eager to call and called as soon as the office opened. I explained that our current situation had been difficult with the lawyer for several reason and our main concerns about switching to Bethany was the money we would lose with our lawyer and the adoption tax credit running out on December 31st (which meant we would need to be placed with a baby and have the entire adoption finialzed by Dec. 31st to get the tax credit). She explained that when she got in that morning and checked her email she received word that the night before (the exact time we were praying together) the adoption tax credit bill had been extended for another year! Of course, I had her repeat it again because I could hardly believe what she said. Sometimes you pray for an answer and it takes awhile to get an answer, but in this case it was quick and just a God thing!!!! We have such peace about our decision and desire nothing more than to follow God through this journey, even when the end seems so distance at times.

We have already gotten our paperwork in and been approved, so this Friday we will attend and all day training course so we can start the homestudy process again. So many of you have asked where we are in the process and how you can pray, so here it goes:

*Pray that we remain content with where God has us today and that we never look so much to the future (or another child) that we lose sight of what He has for us today.

*Pray that we will have wisdom each step of the way.

* Pray that as we wait (we have been told it could take another 1-2 years) we will not grow weary.

* Pray we remember to pray for the birthparents of the little one that will become part of our family. The decision to give your child to another family is the hardest one anyone could ever make.
I also wanted to share with you this video and story of how it was created. Bethany shared with us during our first information meeting a few weeks ago and it touched my heart so much. Hope it does yours also!
